How to Brush Your Teeth

Brushing your teeth requires the right tools and level of effort.  A great start to an effective brushing routine is by choosing the best materials.  A soft brush is generally recommended to remove plaque without damaging your gums.

Toothpaste that contains Fluoride will effectively remove most wastes and potential plaque from your mouth.  As you’re brushing, all areas of your teeth must be thoroughly brushed.  Brush in rhythmic patterns from one side to the other.  Sufficient brushing should only consume 2-4 minutes of your time.

Press your gums against the bristles to ensure the small spaces between the tissue and the teeth are cleaned.  Apply circular strokes on your teeth to ensure the plaque is swept away.  Repeat this pattern 6 to 10 times before moving to the next area.  Brush in all areas even if your mouth begins to foam.  Use short strokes on your teeth’s chewing surfaces to effectively eliminate wastes and harmful bacteria.

It is recommended to brush your teeth after each meal but a twice-a-day routine is sufficient.  For more at-home dental care guidelines, schedule a visit with our doctors.
