Our Dental Specialties Benefit All Patients in Boston and Seaport

CITIDental in Boston and Seaport is a highly-regarded practice in the region for its general dentistry services.

As most of our patients are aware, it isn’t enough to diligently brush for two minutes twice a day and to floss carefully after the last snack. The tools and techniques of our dental hygienists are essential to remove the sticky bacterial plaque from the hard-to- reach areas of the mouth and, when necessary, inject antibiotics to battle gum disease. This needs to be done at least twice a year to prevent the gums from detaching from the teeth, in which even they are likely to fall out or need to be extracted.

Preventive Dentistry is an All-Encompassing Process

Likewise, preventive dentistry means having one of our general dentists do a thorough examination twice a year to detect everything from cavities to oral cancer. If they believe there is a need to determine whether an infection has reached into the jawbone, a digital x-ray (which involves minimal radiation) will be necessary.

We also provide the whole range of other services, from professional teeth whitening and dental veneers for a brighter smile to Invisalign to straighten crooked teeth and dental implants to replace missing ones.

We have Two Periodontics Specialists

But we are one of the very few general dental practices with two in-house specialists in periodontics, so that you don’t have to go elsewhere and pay higher fees for treatments by others who do not necessarily follow our standards. Periodontitis is advanced gum disease and they can prevent this from developing by scraping away tartar, which is hardened plaque, from below the gum line. They can also add gum tissue, if infection has reduced it. If a tooth is already too loose to save, they can extract it and replace it with an implant.

Hidetada Moroi, D.M.D., received his general dentistry degree from Tufts University School of Dental Medicine in 1990, then earned his Certificate in the Advanced Education Program in Periodontology there five years later. Dr. Moroi is a nationally recognized expert who has had many articles published on his specialty in dental journals and taught seminars.

Colleen Shea, D.M.D., graduated from the Harvard University School of Dental Medicine in 1997 and earned a Certificate for Graduate Training in Periodontology. In 2001, she also received a Doctorate of Medical Sciences in Oral Biology. During her post-doctoral studies, she received the prestigious Dentist Scientist Award from the National Institutes of Health and conducted research on bone metabolism at Boston’s Children’s Hospital and Boston University School of Medicine’s Department of Orthopaedics. Dr. Shea is also a Board Certified Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology in recognition of her knowledge and achievements.
